Spain is homogeneous in terms of religion, because most Spaniards are members of the Roman Catholic Church. Although most people in Spain are not overtly religious and most do not go to church, they are usually baptized, married, and buried in Catholic ceremonies. During most of the rule of General Franco, from 1939 to 1975, the Catholic Church was the only religious group with legal status in Spain. Non-Catholics were severely restricted. After Franco’s death in 1975, the close links between the church and the government began to break, and the 1978 constitution guaranteed religious freedom. At that time Madrid’s small Protestant population began to attend their own churches openly.
Today, Christians report that only 650 towns in Spain have evangelical churches, leaving 7,000 towns and cities without an evangelical witness. With such a great need, SEND International has teamed up with national Evangelical churches to assist and train them to spread the message of Jesus Christ and plant churches in population centers where no evangelical churches exist.
We believe that God has called us to take part in this ministry. Is is vital to spread the good news that God loves the world so much that He sent His Son, Jesus, to earth to take the punishment for sin by dying for us and conquering sin and death by rising again. It is not enough that people know that, individuals need to confess with their mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in their heart that God raised Jesus from the dead, then they will be saved. For it is by God's grace that individuals are accepted by God, not by works, but through faith on their part believing and accepting the free gift of salvation through Jesus. If you have never accepted this free gift from God and would like to have a personal relationship with God with security in the fact that you will go to Heaven, you can say this prayer, believing that you are speaking to God:
Dear God, I know I have done wrong things in my life. Please forgive me for those wrong things I have done. Thank you that Jesus died and rose again to take away my sin. I accept what you have done for me and invite you into my life as my Lord and Savior. In Jesus' name, Amen.
If you prayed this prayer for the first time, please let us know. We encourage you to begin reading a Bible starting in the book of Mark in the New Testament. Also, get involved in a local Evangelical church. The relationship you are beginning with God can bring unbelievable joy as God directs you if you apply what you learn through the Bible and become connected with other Christians.
